Jamie Beck knew she was a photographer ever since she picked up her mom’s Pentax camera at age 13. Since then, she’s strived every day to improve her craft. Her Tumblr blog overflows with her work, her travels, and her adventures in food. A contributor to dozens of editorial, food, art, and fashion magazines, Jamie created the ongoing Polaroid Project earlier this year. “What I love about Polaroid film is the notion that you only get one shot. Unlike digital where you can take hundreds on the same subject, the limitations of Polaroid film make you slow down and really be ready to capture a single image,” she says.

As a child, Pam Newman recorded herself singing along with music videos on TV and pretended to give interviews to the press. Today, she’s a Karaoke addict, blogger for Afropunk.com, and solo musician. Rewind a few years: The local Karaoke scene led to her very first band. Her second group, The Revenge of Ricky Williams, enjoyed radio play, a loyal following, and launched her inspiration to be a professional musician. “The world needs to have the rock star reimplemented, and we’re severely lacking in awesome female rockstars,” she says. We think she’ll be the next.

Ian Andersen always liked comics, but it wasn’t until he found James Kochalka’s American Elf that he started making his own. “The idea of just doing a strip a day about my own life really blew me away,” he says. Like many other cartoonists before him, he discovered that this daily routine pushed him to improve his ability in both drawing and writing. Ian has posted a daily comic for two years now, attends college, and drinks lots of coffee.
